31st International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials
The 31st International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials will now take place 5-9 September 2021
Join us for the 31st International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials in 2021: submit oral and poster abstracts by 19 March 2021
In 2021, the 31st edition of the International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials will be held in Mallorca, Spain. The meeting will continue to feature high level research on a wide range of carbon-based materials.
Yury Gogotsi (Drexel University, USA) will give an opening plenary session keynote talk on 2D carbides (MXenes) open new horizons in the world of carbon-based materials.
Besides the traditional focus on diamond, carbon nanotubes, and graphene, novel research on other carbon-based materials will be highlighted. This meeting traditionally spans the complete spectrum from materials preparation, over fundamental physical and chemical concepts, to applied research zooming in on novel device concepts making use of the remarkable properties of carbon materials. Through the DCM Young Scholar Award and DCM Early Career Research Award, the participation of the next generation of scientists is highly encouraged, creating a vibrant forum where scientists from all over the world can meet to discuss and exchange their latest cutting-edge results on diamond and carbon materials.
Topics include but are not limited to:
- Deposition and doping of diamond, carbon nanotubes, MXenes, graphene, etc.
- Physical and chemical modification of carbon materials
- Diamond devices for power electronics, optoelectronics and sensors
- Quantum technology based on carbon and boron nitride
- Energy harvesting (catalysis,…) and storage (supercaps,…) based on diamond, carbon nanotubes MXenes, graphene, etc.
- Defect engineering and colour centres in diamond
- Carbon nanodots and particles
- Theory and computational modelling of carbon materials
- Carbon-based heterostructures with novel oxide, carbide, and nitride materials
- Low temperature physics in carbon based materials
- Carbon materials under pressure and/or in high magnetic fields
- Device concepts using novel carbon materials for electronics, sensors, etc.
- Composites based on carbon nanomaterials

Young scholar award DCM2021
Diamond and Carbon Materials Young Scholar Award
The International Conference on Diamond and Carbon Materials “Young Scholar Award” recognizes predoctoral researchers in the early stage of their career and wishes to offer them an opportunity to highlight their recent results on an international stage through a combination of oral and poster presentations.
Who can apply?
All early stage researchers who do not have a doctoral degree (e.g. D.Sc, Ph.D) at the time of the meeting.
How to apply?
During the submission of your abstract, click the “Young Scholar Award” tickbox.
A “Letter of Recommendation” from a senior scientist supervising the work must complement the abstract. This maximum one A4 page must include the following information:
- The current status of the applicant, e.g. bachelor student, master student, doctoral student.
- The stage of the current status, e.g. 2nd year doctoral student.
- A short assessment of the applicant, the quality of the work carried out by the applicant and the main reason why he/she would deserve this award.
Evaluation
The evaluation will be done in two different steps.
First, all abstracts and related letters of recommendation will be judged by the Young Scholar Award Selection Committee based on scientific novelty and quality. Out of all submissions, 4 to 6 applications will be selected. The abstracts of these applicants will be accepted for ORAL presentation during DCM2021. Together with a note earmarking them as Young Scholar Award abstracts, each of them will be placed in a session of the oral programme based on the topic of each individual abstract. (Hence, there will NOT be a separate Young Scholar Award session.)
In addition to the oral presentation, all of the shortlisted applicants will be asked to prepare a poster on the same subject of the abstract. These posters will be placed together and highlighted during the first poster session on Monday afternoon. This will provide the Young Scholar Award Selection Committee ample opportunity to evaluate the quality of the posters, and to interact with their respective presenters. This will then serve as the base to select the Gold and the Silver Award winners.
Awards
In addition to the highlighting of their work in the oral and poster programmes:
- The Gold Young Scholar Award winner will receive a cash prize of 250 Euros, an Award certificate, and a Conference Dinner ticket.
- The Silver Young Scholar Award winner will receive an Award certificate, and a Conference Dinner ticket.
