The classic MAX IV summer school, organised jointly by MAX IV and Chalmers, will take place 8-16 June 2020. As during the first 32 years of its history, the school aims to give students a broad and at the same time specific overview of methods available to them at MAX IV.
Students from different disciplines will build a network and make the first connections that will lead to future scientific collaborations.
We will offer a full day of hands-on experience with a real beam at MAX IV deadlines, and touch on aspects of data handling as well. Lecturers and the summer school chairs are renown experts and teachers in synchrotron radiation, some of them former summer school students themselves.
Scope of the School
The aim of the school is present to the graduate students the current possibilities and potential offered to the MAX IV synchrotron light source users.
A proper understanding of synchrotron facilities and why they are such a useful tool for research is important to raise the awareness, among their present and future users communities, and improve the results obtained.
The program in this MAX IV in focus school includes lectures on various instruments and methods covered with different degrees of depths: general and wide overviews, specific and detailed examples; exercises and hands-on practicals; opportunities to mingle and networking among the students, lecturers and the participating MAX IV scientists.
The number of participants is limited to 30 students.
The selection will be based on the student´s letter of motivation that must be included in the registration. The student´s motivation letter should estate their research engagement and their interest towards synchrotron radiation. The students are also requested to present a poster about (a project from) their PhD. Priority will be given to students in the early stage of their PhD and we aim at having a group of selected candidates representing a good distribution in research topics.
The Summer School in Synchrotron Radiation 2020, co-organized by Chalmers University and MAX IV, has no fees.
The bus from Lund C to Backagården and back is included as well as accommodation on June 8-16 and all meals except for your free day (Saturday 13th).
The traveling from your home University to Lund and back is not organized by the Summer School.
The application system open 1 March 2020, the deadline is 1 April 2020.
