The 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been jointly awarded to Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar for “mechanistic studies of DNA repair”. Their studies provided much introspection into the fundamental mechanism of cellular repair and this knowledge is highly translational and applicable, for instance, in the development of novel cancer therapy.
