Skoltech is a unique new, private, English-speaking international university offering research and graduate educational programs integrated with experience in innovation and entrepreneurship.

It is an ambitious project aimed at bringing together the best international and Russian traditions in education, research and innovation. Skoltech’s mission is to offer programs that have educational, scholarly and economic impact on the Russian Federation and the world, by educating leading graduate students and conducting research programs to address key challenges in science, engineering, technology and innovation. Skoltech faculty are leading the development of a new curriculum and innovative research structure.

Skoltech projects to reach 200 researchers and educators to teach at the university by 2020. To achieve this goal, Skoltech is currently hiring leading researchers and educators from around the world. Skoltech is committed to diversity and equality, and all are invited to apply without regard for gender, race or national origin. Main structural units of Skoltech are Centers for Research, Education and Innovation (CREI), each with a focus of its own within the priority areas of the institute: IT, Biomedicine, Energy, Space, Entrepreneurship & Innovation as well as cross-cutting disciplines. CREIs collaborate with leading university partners around the world and are home to teams of internationally leading researchers, postdoctoral researchers, and students.

By now, nine CREIs have been established and five of them are looking for new faculty colleagues:

Skoltech Center for Energy Systems (CES) is an interdisciplinary center for research, education and innovation at Skoltech that focuses on development of new methodologies and tools for controlling power systems of the 21st century that is characterized by high penetration of active demand, distributed generation and energy storage and by strong interactions between power, gas and heating/cooling networks. CES engages in its research effort scholars representing different disciplines including maths, physics, computer science, power engineering, but also economics, social and political science, as any changes on the global or regional power markets have far-reaching financial and social consequences.

Skoltech Center for Energy Systems (CES) is looking for faculty having major expertise in the following four areas:

  • energy markets and regulation
  • smart and resilient grids
  • coupled energy infrastructures
  • power electronics and devices.

Two Assistant Professor positions are available as of Fall of 2015, with several mid-level and senior faculty positions available in 2016.

Skoltech Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage (CEE) is looking for faculty having major expertise that concentrates around both fundamental and applied backgrounds in either experimental or theory covering areas such as energy conversion and storage (fuel cells and batteries), electrocatalysis, photoelectrochemistry, electrodeposition and electrosynthesis, organic- and bio-electrochemistry, and physical and analytical electrochemistry.

Junior and mid-level faculty positions are available starting from 2016.

Skoltech Center for Electrochemical Energy Storage is an interdisciplinary center for research, education and innovation at Skoltech that focuses on study and development of devices and systems than can dramatically advance portable electronics and electric vehicle transportation sectors, in addition to grid-level energy use through load-leveling and power-shaping, which serve as energy buffers to increase the efficient use of alternative energy sources. CEE’s mission is to:

  • develop ways to smooth the intermittency of renewable electricity generation and reduce or eliminate the CO2 emissions from traditional sources (e.g. transportation)
  • develop the clean energy technologies via direct conversion of chemical energy into electrical energy
  • develop more efficient and low cost materials and technologies for portable, transportation and grid-level power applications.

Skoltech Center for Data-Intensive Biomedicine and Biotechnology (CDIB) is looking for faculty members to be appointed at Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level. The faculty positions are available starting in 2016. Specifically, we are looking for candidates who will establish a high-quality interdisciplinary research program in bioinformatics and/or systems biology. Our faculty will lead the development of new curricula and innovative research structure. Accordingly, research in the new Center will develop in the following main directions:

  • identify novel targets, bacterial-derived materials and processes to combat bacterial infectious diseases and for biotechnological applications;
  • comprehensive study of molecular and structural features unique to the human brain using cutting-edge “big-data” approaches;
  • develop novel medical therapies based on the newest biological techniques and explore biological mechanisms of traditional medical treatments using state-of-the-art biological approaches, validation and verification of drugs.

Skoltech Center for Photonics and Quantum Materials (CPQM) is looking for an experimentalist in hybrid photonics to be appointed at Full Professor level. The position is available immediately.

Two more faculty positions are available starting in 2016: we are looking for experimentalists in polaritonics and new 2D materials to be appointed at Associate or Assistant Professor level.

Skoltech Center for Photonics and Quantum Materials (CPQM) seeks to impact research, education and innovation in photonics and quantum materials (including hybrid photonics, polaritonics, spinoptronics and plasmonics) worldwide and assume leadership in this field in Russia. Recently, Photonics and Quantum Technologies is identified as one of three national technological priorities, and CPQM has already secured additional three year government funding for carrying out research in this area. The Center now aims at creation of several strong experimental applied research labs that will rapidly put Skoltech onto the international science map, including Hybrid Photonics Lab, Carbon-based NanoMaterials Lab and Polaritonics Lab.

Skoltech Space Center (SSC) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position with a start date of September 2015 or thereafter. The Center seeks for an exceptional candidate with expertise in space data exploitation including remote sensing, navigation, telecommunications, and related areas. Outstanding candidates with expertise in other areas related to space engineering in our focus areas (see below) will be also considered. We are seeking for a highly qualified candidate committed to research, education, and innovation. Faculty duties include teaching at graduate level, student and innovation projects advising, and conducting research. All activities at Skoltech are carried out in the English language.

SSC’s mission is to conduct research, education and innovation activities to exploit near Earth and cis-lunar space for the benefit society and for the preparation for humans to leave low Earth orbit. Special emphasis is placed on aspects of space flight that can be easily commercialized, including earth viewing sensors and spacecraft sub systems, as well as on the exploitation of space-based data. SSC closely cooperates with the Russian industry and involves companies in the definition of plans, the development of programs, and the transfer of knowledge and know how.
